An Eight Hour Seminar

People have learned to use drugs for a number of different reasons in our culture. Alcohol and other mind altering drugs are used to buffer emotions, drown sorrows, lighten the moment, enhance a recreational experience, to escape, or just to get high.

While we touch on illicit drugs, alcohol is the main focus of this program. Alcohol use by college students is the number one cause of college failure. Drunken driving fatalities are the number one cause of teenage deaths. Alcohol and other drugs are involved in over seventy percent of all crimes. It is a major factor in divorce and other family problems.

There are three disorders with alcohol use that can destroy your life. First is abuse drinking. That is defined as drinking enough to become intoxicated. Secondly, becoming intoxicated leads to problems, and it becomes problem drinking. Problem drinking is defined as having real life problems occur as a result of alcohol use. Finally, it grows into what we call alcoholism. Alcoholism is like a cancer--it is there and growing inside of you long before you are consciously aware of it. However, like cancer, there are early warning signs and if you pay attention to them, you can head alcoholism off early.

This seminar is Certified by the State and accepted by Kansas Courts as eight hours of alcohol education. It is designed to educate you on the latest, most up to date developments in the field of alcohol and other drug use. You will learn about the financial and emotional costs of alcoholism and abuse and problem drinking, the law, effects of drugs on the body, how to spot abuse drinking, problem drinking, alcoholism, and treatment options.
