COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT) FOR THE TREATMENT OF ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUG DISORDERS
Some people do not require the extensive outpatient treatment program. For those people we are able to individually develop a treatment plan using CBT. This approach is based on the observation that events in our lives do not, in and of themselves, cause us to feel certain ways, or do certain things. It is our interpretations of those events which lead us to certain emotions. CBT takes the control away from the drug and gives it back to you, where it belongs. Through our lives, we all tend to build patterns of behavior that we later define as dysfunctional. CBT has been shown to be effective with alcohol disorders as well as other drugs.
In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, you will discover the patterns of interpretation lying beneath the surface of your troubling addictions. Once these have been thoroughly identified, you can learn to confront and replace recurrent irrational assumptions.
Many irrational or problem beliefs are very subtle and even out of your awareness. Learning to apply a scientific method to your own thoughts is an important part of CBT. Like most people who are dealing with alcohol or other drug problems, you are probably subject to a number of unconscious irrational beliefs. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy will help you uncover and change them.
CBT has proven effectiveness. In cases of problem or abuse drinking, CBT has been proven through research to be effective. It is also known to be effective for people who are alcoholic or have other drug addictions.
CBT is effective and it can help you, too. By learning to take the control away from drugs and give it back to yourself, you can discover your true freedom.
