ANGER CONTROL
Anger is a common human emotion. When you feel angry, your body is on alert and noradrenalin is released into your system. This causes actual physiological changes. Your heart beats faster, your pulse increases, your breathing deepens and you are ready for "fight or flight." If you are able to recognize your state and get control of it fairly soon little harm is done to your body or to your relationships.
For some people, however, anger becomes chronic. They respond with anger to even the smallest frustration. This anger is experienced intensely. Others begin to shy away from them which only confirm the basis for the rage--"I never get treated fairly" or "I never get what I want." Is anger a major part of your life or someone you love?
Not only does anger destroy relationships, research has shown anger to be a culprit in hypertension which can lead to heart disease. Anger stresses your body and leads to a number of physical problems. This is especially true of repressed anger. In fact, the American Cancer Society has said that stress is the cause of seventy percent of all illnesses.
Real anger control can only be achieved through self-understanding, insight, and internal resolve. The amount of time that takes is individually determined. This is because chronic anger control problems can result from deeper issues rather than from your immediate circumstances. This does not mean that you have to wait to get better, however. While working on the deeper dynamics, you use cognitive psychotherapy, psycho-education, and relaxation techniques to control immediate symptoms. We prefer to avoid Anger Control Groups and offer you a treatment plan that is individualized to fit your needs.
