COGNITIVE THERAPY
Cognitive therapy is based on the remarkably simple observation that events in our lives do not, in and of themselves, cause us to feel certain ways, or do certain things. It is our interpretations of those events which lead us to certain emotions. Through our lives, we all tend to build patterns of interpreting events which can become mistaken and can cause emotional and behavior problems. The most common of which are anger, depression and anxiety.
In Cognitive therapy, you will discover the patterns of interpretation lying beneath the surface of your troubling feelings. Once these have been thoroughly identified, you can learn to confront and replace recurrent mistaken assumptions.
Many mistaken or problem beliefs are very subtle and even out of your awareness. Learning to apply a scientific method to your own thoughts is an important part of Cognitive therapy. Like most people, you are probably subject to a number of unfounded beliefs. Cognitive therapy would help you uncover and change them.
Cognitive therapy has proven effectiveness. In cases of moderate or mild depression, cognitive therapy has been proven through research to be as effective as antidepressant medication, and being free of side effects it is much safer. It is also known to be effective for a variety of other emotional or behavior problems, including anxiety, anger, and relationship problems.
